“There is no limit to what we, as women can accomplish. To mark International Women’s day 2023, Ignite Youth organization, together with Nyasha Manzou, ASIAM foundation and GirlUpZimbabwe joined hands to host women’s day event for young women who stay in the Mbare community. The Ignite Girls Program Leader Gamuchirayi Gondo, encouraged the girls to be brave and confident and choose career choices based on their own passions, interests and strengths. Career counselling is an effective service that guides young women through the steps of figuring out what they want to do with their lives, learning about their options, and deciding on a course of action to get there.

The girls learnt self-defense techniques, affirmations as well as confidence building. The theme for International Women’s day 2023 was DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality. It was in alignment with the priority theme for the 67th session of the united nations commission on the status of women (CSW- 6), Innovation and echnological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
According to UN Women: Bringing women and other marginalized groups into technology results in more creative solutions and has greater potential for innovations that meet women’s needs and promote gender equality. Their lack of inclusion, by contrast, comes with massive costs as per UN Women’s Gender Snapshot 2022 report, women’s exclusion from the digital world has shaved $1 trillion from the gross domestic product of low- and middle-income countries in the last decade a loss that grow to $1.5 trillion by 2025 without action. Reversing this trend will require tackling the problem of online violence, which a study of 51 countries revealed 38 per cent of women had personally experienced.
A huge thank you to all the organizations who we got the opportunity to work with on this initiative. Thank you so much to ASIAMFOUNDATION for putting some really pretty gift bags for the girls, Pad Up Zim for providing sanitary cups and Ignite Youth Girls for donating the pads. Nyasha Manzou put up a very appetizing lunch together with her mom as well as Restoring African Dignity team. Above all we thank the Lord Almighty for making the day a success.
