On the 18th of May, the Ignite Creativity Program in partnership with Lifeline held an impressive and artistic event known as ‘Beautiful Scars’ at Greenwood Park, which celebrated artistic expression on concepts such as embracing scars both physical and emotional as well as concepts of love and relationships. The event was also the final segment of the Voyager Level (Read more about the Purpose Curriculum).
The event stared off with introductions, followed by a concise breakdown of the program outline. Ms. Madzima led the ‘Purpose Boards’ session – where members were asked to visualize and ‘draw’ their purpose on paper boards. She explained how Purpose Boards are more closely related to Vision Boards, however, with a small caveat. Purpose Boards focus more on one’s purpose, as compared to things one simply desires. The session was one hour long, and members were given the opportunity to not only present, but to also ask on the aspects of purpose they did not understand.
Following the creation of Purpose Boards, Evison Sunguro (Creativity Vice-Head) led a discussion on how love and purpose are interlinked, and the audience discussed on the things they love and how they assisted in discovering their purpose. The entertainment section of the program was nothing short of magical – with dazzling performances from Elluzhen (Music), Lizson (Spoken Word), Cliff (Music), Aldrine Muzorondi (Poem) and Tasha_BX (Beatbox). Andre-Jesse Cele (Lifeline Head) then led the Art Therapy session, which guided everyone through a relaxing form of therapy by harnessing art. Post the event, members networked through a fun excursion of Greenwood Park (train and boat rides).
