On the 27th of July, Ignite Youth held its annual sporting event called ‘Amplified’. The event took place from 9 am – 4 pm at Sherwood Golf Club, a serene golf-club situated in the heart of Mabelreign, Harare. The event was geared towards promoting youth empowerment through sporting and recreational activities. It also incorporated a ‘First Aid Training’ component, which effectively educated young people on the fundamentals of First Aid, especially given its importance in critical or emergency situations.

The event kick started with brief introductions, as members got familiar with each other, their hobbies and interests, and what they were seeking to gain from the training. The First Aid training was led by Mr. Webster Jaricha, a Training Director (Convergence Health & Safety (PVT) Ltd) with more than a decade of impressive experience in the First Aid and medical industry. His enthusiasm for his work was immediately obvious, and this instantly engaged the 20+ members that were present. Mr. Jaricha took the members through the fundamentals of First Aid such as SCCC, which stands for See, Check, Call and Care, which are effective responses to any emergency situation that require first aid intervention. The ‘See’ refers to making sharp observations about what is going, especially pertaining to the individual in question. The ‘Check’ and ‘Call’ refer to effectively investigating and calling upon the necessary personnel to assist in the situation, and the ‘Care’ refers to ensuring the individual in question is well nurtured for until professional assistance has arrived. Mr Jaricha also shared on the true definition of ‘First Aid’, the protocols and nuances of administering first aid, and how to effectively administer Mouth to Mouth.

Following his training and a much inspiring closing speech, members engaged in sporting activities such as Tug-o-War, dodgeball and jumping rope. These activities emphasized the importance of sporting and physical activities, especially in a world that is ever evolving and ever busy. It was a great time for the members to not only enhance their fitness, but to also unwind and relax. The sporting activities were led by our very own Tinashe Takarwa (Events and Marketing Officer) and Tinashe Macmillan Goko, commonly known as ‘Malume’.

Following the sporting activities, the members engaged in a competitive (yet fun and educative) round of 30 seconds. Tyrone Takawira (Communications and Grant Officer) assisted in explaining how the game is play, and demonstrated the essence of the game through a demo round. Soon, the official round would take off, and members elated in joy, disbelief and genuine surprise to some of the answers that were being shared.

The event ended in a colorful display of paint through a mini-color run.
